There is a cube in which one pair of adjacent faces is painted Blue, the second pair of adjacent faces is painted Pink and the third pair of adjacent faces is painted Black. This cube is now cut into 125 smaller but identical cubes.

How many cubes are not painted blue at all?

Options

  1. a.

    60

  2. b.

    70

  3. c.

    80

    Correct answer
  4. d.

    90

Explanation

Total number of small cubes = 125 = 5^3

Number of small cubes are divided as 25 × 5 i.e. 25 cubes per face.

Two adjacent faces are painted Blue. Each face has 25 cubes.

However, the 5 cubes that lie on the edge of the adjacent Blue faces are common to both the Blue faces.

Total number of cubes that are painted Blue = 25 + 25 - 5 = 45

Number of small cubes with no Blue paint at all = 125 - 45 = 80

Hence, option c is the answer
